Leadership Training
Preparing to lead people, especially preparing to lead as a pastor or elder, requires deep character.
Sometimes, men can get away with a checklist kind of review in preparation for the calling to shepherd the people of God--and this is to their, and others', detriment.
I like Tim Chester's list; even more, I aspire to his list. Here are a few of my own observations as to why this is such a helpful matrix.
(click below to read more.)
- This list/grid grasps both the courage/strength aspect of leadership, as well as the Gospel-transformation-of-character aspect of leadership.
- This strikes me as a good start at defining what St. Peter calls "an undershepherd" in 1 Peter 5--under, specifically, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, Jesus Christ our Lord.
- This list addresses both emotional and spiritual health of a leader.
- It is profoundly practical, and profoundly God-centered.
If you measure yourself against this list, even if you're not an elder, how do you make out?
