Mercy Hill Sacred Space
For those of you who attended the launch team meeting this past Sunday, you were introduced to a unique opportunity that Mercy Hill has to experience and share the Gospel right here in our own community.
As Mercy Hill takes steps towards living “sent” lives, we are excited to potentially partner with two local organizations to hold a missional event for the people of Glassboro, particularly in the neighborhood surrounding Elsmere Park.
Right now we are looking at a two-day (Friday/Saturday) event involving fellowship times, food, games for boys and girls, teaching, and worship.
Friday will be a time for introducing, connecting, loving, and serving, built around a simple meal and games.
Saturday will place the focus on the kids with various sport and craft stations. Lunch will be provided and kids will be invited back that evening with their families for a final barbecue-style get together where teaching and worship will take place.
This outreach will be key as we hope to build relationships with each other and with those in the community.
Please click here to download a handout (06-08 Elsmere Park Sacred Space) that includes a list of potential dates, scripture to ponder, and other details concerning the tentative schedule.
Also, please take some time to respond to our short survey that will help us determine the most optimal weekend and your availability.

Behind the scenes at Mercy Hill we have recently been discussing the idea of Sacred Space. We have “officially defined” it as...
“What’s created when a follower of Jesus drenches something common or ordinary with heavenly glory. When a follower of Jesus sees something common as, in fact, something sacred, created by God.”
As missional people, bringing Christ wherever we go, we can make ordinary places, sacred. Just as Jesus took on flesh and came to us in the form of a servant like we see in John, we want to go to the people in the surrounding communities as an expression of the kingdom, allowing the Gospel to work in our lives as we seek to bring it to others.
In light of this, Mercy Hill has some opportunities this summer to develop some sacred space.
Mercy Hill is assisting Emmanuel Baptist Church of Glassboro with their summer VBS. It begins June 21 and runs through the 25th from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
This will be our first ministry of mercy this summer, it could be chaos, it could be messy, but if we come ready to serve, God will use us. We need you to make this happen.
Currently, we need to fill 4-5 teaching and assistant positions. This would involve taking the kids through a 15-20 minute lesson and guiding them to their next station. We also need help in organizing games and activities for each age group as they come through the recreation station. This would ideally require 3-4 people. Don’t worry--you will be fully equipped to teach or organize what need be and Caleb will be getting together with you in the near future to go over more details.
Secondly, Mercy Hill will be partnering with the Glassboro Park and Rec. Dept. on July 22nd to hold a “family night” for the local community. Being at the end of July, you have some time to work this into your calendar. Come out to East New Street Park at 6:30 p.m., bring your families, bring your friends. Introduce your self to people, hear their story, tell them yours, just live the gospel as you interact and fellowship.
We’ll need volunteers there who are willing to skate or be in the rink with the kids ready to help. And Mercy Hill will also be hosting some field games (Kickball, wiffel-ball, soccer, etc.) so your help would be needed in organizing and facilitating those.
That is Mercy Hill Scared Space for June and July. In order for these to be sacred, you need to be there. It will involve sacrifice and service, but also an opportunity to experience and share the Gospel.
Take some time to review the responsibilities, we can be flexible, but commit soon. Vacation Bible School meetings will need to begin soon. Please contact Caleb Way if you have any questions or desire to serve, we would love to get you plugged into Mercy Hill’s Sacred Space this summer.
