More on Inviting Your Friends

Our next preview service will be on Sunday morning, April 11.

We think the best way for someone who doesn't go to church, or who has given up on church, or who is in a spiritually curious place in their lives to start the process of being associated with a church community is to be invited by someone they know.

Inviting Your Friends

Updated on by Registered CommenterPhil Henry

Most people who visit a church event do so not because they woke up some morning and decided, "I need to get back to God!" but because someone in their life, often a spouse, many times a close friend or relative, invited them to be a part of something.

That's been our experience, too.

At Mercy Hill's first preview service, several people visited our community for the first time. As far as I can tell, all of them did so because they were personally invited by someone who has already identified with our church family.

Some were invited and were not able to come. I wonder if they will be invited again?

The Discipline of Learning

One reason churches, and individual believers, struggle to take risks and reach out to other people is that they forget what joy they felt when they first believed.

One remedy for restoring this joy is to practice the discipline of learning (and re-learning) the basics of the Christian faith with others in community.

Two opportunities for this rhythm of learning upcoming for the friends and family that are part of Mercy Hill are coming up this Spring.

First, Jeff Vanderstelt is speaking on May 3 (11:00am-5pm) in Philadelphia at Real Life Church on the subject of "Exploring Missional Communities." Read more about this one-day conference here.
